Playing with a purpose | On the Bright Side

In a world dominated by screens, Keystone Kidspace in York is bringing back the art of hands-on play.

YORK, Pa. — With most kids glued to iPads, Keystone Kidspace offers an offline experience that encourages children to create, explore, and connect in person.

Nestled on Hamilton Avenue in York, the bright, colorful space is more than just a playroom.  It's a hands-on learning laboratory.

"What we bring to kids is a chance to be kids. They need a chance to make a mess, to make a mistake, to try things they've never tried before," said co-founder Jessica Brubaker. "They need a chance to just play."

The magic happens with pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, googly eyes and colored pencils.

Brubaker says with 19,000 visitors last year, it's clear parents and kids are hungry for this type of unstructured experience.

"There's something here literally for everyone. No matter what your interests are, no matter your age, you will find something here that you really enjoy creating with, exploring with," said Brubaker.

Keystone Kidspace is asking for the community to support its STEAM maker programs.

They are looking for donations of craft supplies like duct tape, glue, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and yarn.

The non-profit is the beneficiary of Bright Nights York from Nov. 29 - Dec. 5.

During that time frame, you can drop off supplies at our FOX43 Donation station at WellSpan Park.
