CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Students at Harrisburg Academy in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County had a goal to collect 2,000 food items for their thanksgiving food drive.
As of Tuesday, they raised over 3,000 food items.
Drue M., a senior at Harrisburg Academy, spearheaded the food drive this year. Her goal was to create more than 200 thanksgiving meals for families in need.
Now, she has enough food items to make 300.
These bagged Thanksgiving meals were delivered to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
“Holding a food drive was my first idea because food banks are always in need of donations around the holidays," said Drue. "A food drive was also a great way to educate the student body about food insecurity in our local community since all donations are benefiting the Central PA Food Bank,"
At 9:45 a.m., students and administrators put the boxes of food items in a van to be sent to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
