PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Welcome to the next month of the FOX43 Book Club!
We are partnering with local libraries to create a Book Club featuring authors from Pennsylvania, highlighting the stories of our surrounding communities.
Mina Edmondson, director of York County Libraries' (YCL) Martin Library, joined FOX43 Morning News anchor Gabrielle Mediak to introduce January's read, "Living Quarters" by Adrienne Su.
The book of poetry explores themes of house versus home and what really makes a space feel comforting. "Living Quarters" asks questions such as how nature can be simultaneously so benevolent and yet so cruel but does not seek to answer them. The poetry seeks to find solace in life's disorder.
Author Adrienne Su has written five books of poetry, along with standalone poetry and prose. Her work appears in multiple anthologies, and she has won several awards for her writing, such as a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship. Su teaches poetry, fiction and nonfiction at Dickinson College in Carlisle.
Those who are interested in participating in the Book Club discussion on Jan. 30 can find the book at many online retailers or at libraries in the surrounding area. A catalog search found a copy in York County's library system. Readers can also ask their preferred library to request the novel from Access PA, a statewide library resource-sharing network.
If "Living Quarters" doesn't get your fingers itching to turn pages, Edmondson also recommends "Why Fathers Cry at Night" by Kwame Alexander and "A Library" by Nikki Giovanni and illustrated by Erin Robinson. Watch the video above for a synopsis of these picks.
We invite you to join Gabby and digital content producer Kayleigh Johnson for their Facebook Live discussion of "Living Quarters" on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. The Live will be hosted on the FOX43 Book Club's Facebook group.
