Dog struck, killed in Lancaster County

The Red Merle Australian Shepherd did not have chips or tags on his collar, but police have not given up attempting to locate the owner.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Lancaster County police are searching for the owner of a dog that was struck and killed. 

According to a Facebook post by the Manheim Township Police Department, officers responded to Route 30 West in the area of Route 222 South at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 for a report of a dog struck by a vehicle. 

Officers found a male Red Merle Australian Shepherd alive but with significant injuries. Two officers carefully transported the dog to Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties, but it passed away early Sunday morning. 

The dog was reportedly not microchipped and did not have any tags on the blue collar it was wearing.

Police have asked anyone with information about the owner of the dog or how he found his way onto Route 30 to call 717-569-6401. Callers can remain anonymous while leaving tips.
