LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A red-tailed hawk found trapped in electrical wires is on the road to recovery.
According to the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, the juvenile hawk was found stunned and unable to free herself from powerlines on Jan. 10. As PPL arrived at the scene with proper equipment, they were able to loosen the lines and the bird dropped to the ground.
It was at this point that the game warden arrived at the scene. Officials believed the hawk had died after hanging upside down for two and a half hours in the rain/sleet and falling temperatures, but they quickly discovered that the hawk was still alive and breathing.
The hawk was quickly transported to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center and has been in the non-profit's care since.
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the center released an update on the hawk, saying that she is doing very well in her recovery.
"She is healing, eating, aggressive and will be moving to the next step of a full flight cage," officials with the wildlife center wrote on Facebook. "She is a real SPITFIRE. We are so thankful for everyone involved in the rescue of this beautiful red-tailed hawk. It is very clear that she is grateful for a second chance."
