HERSHEY, Pa. — A wild raccoon surprised guests waiting in line for the SooperDooperLooper roller coaster at Hersheypark, attacking at least two people before scurrying off.
A Hersheypark spokesperson says this is the first raccoon attack the park can recall and that the park has extensive fencing to help prevent this type of incident due to the nature surrounding it.
TMZ reports that the apparently frightened raccoon made off with a young girl's shoe after biting her foot. The incident seems to have occurred on the opening day of the park's 2024 season, March 29.
"Guest safety is and will always be our top priority at Hersheypark," a spokesperson said. "As such, we have a full complement of public safety and health professionals on property who responded quickly to render necessary care to the two people impacted."
Park officials say they took those two people to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution.
The raccoon has not been captured, but authorities say it has not returned to the park since the incident.
