PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The holiday season is here!
In this week's Family First, we're taking a look at fun events happening in central Pennsylvania this weekend that both kids and parents can enjoy.
Light Up York kicks off with the lighting of this year's Christmas tree in Continental Square.
According to York City Special Events, this year's tree is a "chonker." It was donated by Scott and Debbie Young of Dover.
The lighting of the tree will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. After that, the annual holiday celebration will begin with snow machines, live reindeer and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
There are several other tree lightings taking place around our area this weekend.
On Friday, the Collinsville Community Library in Brogue, York County will host its first tree lighting celebration. Festivities there kick off at 5 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6:30.
And in Cumberland County, this year's tree in Carlisle will be lit at 6 p.m. on Saturday as part of the town's Making Spirits Bright Holiday Parade.
In Lancaster County on Saturday, the tree in Manheim's Market Square will light up around 6:15 p.m., with festivities kicking off at 4:30.
Also in Lancaster County, Terre Hill's Christmas in the Park is officially back.
The event will take place for two weekends starting this Friday. The outdoor holiday celebration includes homemade lighted displays, walking trails and ice sculpture carvings. Christmas in the Park is free to the public.
And the Christkindl Market returns to Coleman Memorial Park in Lebanon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The event is inspired by the Christkindl markets in Germany. There's something here for the entire family—food, crafts and a visit from Santa. All the proceeds from the event will go towards upkeep of the park.
