Archetype Pizza is peachy keen for National Peach Day

Archetype Pizza is making three different peach pizzas with local produce in honor of National Peach Day.

YORK, Pa. — Peach season is in full swing, and Archetype Pizza isn't missing a second of it.

It currently has Peaches Pie on the menu, a creation inspired by viral peach pizza baked with Archetype's own spin.

The pie is topped with mozzarella, olive oil, shaved parmesan and, of course, locally-sourced peaches.

"We don't heavily top any of our pizzas, because it's all about balance, right?" Philip Given, co-owner, said. "It's about balancing the flavors, and the fruit on the peach is really going to come through here."

Given says the real magic happens after the pizza comes out of the oven, when it gets topped with creamy burrata, balsamic glaze and fresh basil.

The peaches and basil come fresh from farms in central Pennsylvania.

"It makes specials like this so much easier too, because we have access to this great produce," Given said.

Customers can get the Peaches Pie in three styles: round, Detroit or Grandma. The round pie is a typical round pizza, while Grandma style is square, thin and crispy.

The Detroit-style pizza got its start about 60 years ago in--you guessed it--Detroit, when people started making pizzas in Detroit Auto Parts bins. The result is a thick and fluffy square deep-dish pie with a crispy crust.

"We are bakers," Given said. "Good pizza is great bread, and that's what we start with every day."

The Peaches Pie will be available for the rest of August and into September--for as long as Archetype can get fresh peaches.

Those who would like to keep up with Archetype's latest creations and specials can follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
