YORK COUNTY, Pa. — The bakers at Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market just finished a marathon run of making almost 4,000 pies for Thanksgiving--but there's no rest for bakers during the holiday season, and especially not on National Pie Day.
Mary Brown, owner of Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market, joined FOX43 Morning News at Nine today to demonstrate how to make a caramel apple nut pie.
Her first piece of advice: slice the apples thinly, so the pie cooks evenly without the crust being overdone or burning.
"Crusts are kind of the bane of every baker's existence," she laughed. "They have to be perfect, and you don't want to overcook."
Brown describes the caramel apple nut pie as similar to a basic apple pie but topped with a crumb mixture that features a blend of nuts and spices--and, of course, there's the caramel.
This pie is just one of 25 kinds available at the farm market.
"I like pie," Brown summarized. "I would say there's not a pie I've met that I don't care for."
The bakers at Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market pump out around 30,000 pies each year.
To snag one of them, the farm market is open daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Those interested can also follow along with the business on Facebook, Instagram and X.
