DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Food insecurity continues to impact more and more families across central Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, Dec. 28, one Dauphin County nonprofit that's helping to close the gap got a huge boost.
Chris Topf, FOX43's president and general manager, presented HANNA's Pantry with a $5,000 check courtesy of the TEGNA Foundation.
The nonprofit provides groceries and essential items twice a month to families in need across the Susquehanna Township School District. It's seeing unprecedented demand and directors say this money will help them continue to serve hundreds of families.
"I love to cook, and being able to feed people and have the community we have is awesome," said Lori Shienvold, the executive director of Hanna's Pantry.
Since opening in 2019, Hanna's Pantry has gone from serving 40 families to over 400 in a single distribution. The Susquehanna Township School District is also the most diverse in the entire state.
The pantry works to provide meals that fit every family's diet and is always looking for more volunteers. For those interested in donating time or learning more about the nonprofit, click here.
