YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A new restaurant in Manchester Township, York County brings fresh ingredients and extra flavor right to your plate.
Co-owner Justin Coleman says Men in the Kitchen is a fusion restaurant, so the owners are not focused on one particular flavor or cuisine.
"What we like to do is really fuse different cultures together to bring different dishes into light and to life, so I think that's what makes our food different and our food, you know, unique and special," he said.
Everything is made fresh from scratch--just men (and women) in the kitchen, no cans or boxes.
"Our menu is unique, you know, where else can you get a crab and shrimp eggroll... or lamb chops, you know, so I think we do some really unique and different things with our menu," Coleman said.
He and his co-owners say the name of their restaurant also communicates an important idea.
"I think it's very important to share a message that, you know, men cook, African American men cook, because when you think about cooking and kitchens a lot of times, you know you attribute females to that occupation and their wonderful cooks," Coleman said. "We have several females that work in our kitchen here, at Men In the Kitchen, but we think it's important especially that young generations to see that cooking can be done by men as well, and you know a skill that you need, no matter where you're at in life."
The business owner says he hopes to inspire other young men to think about entrepreneurship and owning their own business.
"So identify what your passion is and then find out how you can create or build a business around that," Coleman said. "For me, that's cooking. Then it's really not like you're coming to work."
Coleman hopes his legacy lives on long beyond the eatery.
"When we walk away from Men In the Kitchen, I really hope this is a household name or household brand, and when people think Men In the Kitchen, you know, they think a good quality food," Coleman said. "That's really our hope for this business as we continue to grow and build it."
Men in the Kitchen is located at 555 Ryan Run Rd, Suite P, in York. It is open Tuesday through Sunday and also offers catering.
