National Donut Day: It's a 'sweet' Friday with Duck Donuts!

Donut lovers, it's your day! Duck Donuts is celebrating the yummy day with a sweet deal.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Here's something "sweet"--Friday is National Donut Day, meaning there are deals on these yummy treats you "do-nut" want to miss.

FOX43 spent the morning with Duck Donuts in Mechanicsburg, where the store is giving out one free cinnamon sugar donut to each guest that comes in on this delicious day! No purchase is necessary.

Kristin Kellum Shearer, the communications director for Duck Donuts, says this day is about more than just donuts.

"We love the excitement that we see from our guests," Kellum Shearer said. "Really at the end of the day, what we're trying to do with our delicious donuts is sprinkle happiness.

"There's actually a history behind this national celebration. The day was established in 1938 in honor of the Salvation Army's 'donut lassies,' [who] used to serve donuts out of their helmets for the soldiers during World War I," Kellum Shearer said.

And to honor the way National Donut Day started, Duck Donuts will be "donating donuts to our local Salvation Army as a thank you and as a tribute," Kellum Shearer said.

Duck Donuts will be serving warm, made-to-order donuts all day long. They can't wait to welcome customers in, "and just to see them light up, they smile, take that first bite, is what we look forward to every day," Kellum Shearer said.

The donut shop is also currently hosting its Second Annual National Make-A-Wish Campaign through June 16, where customers can purchase their "special-edition Wish Rubber Duck." For each duck that's adopted, $1 will be donated to support Make-A-Wish. Customers can also donate to the cause when they place an online order or by rounding up their change in-shop.
