Oola Bowls serves up fresh flavor at recently opened York store

The recently opened York store marks Oola Bowls' fifth standalone location.

YORK, Pa. — From food truck to locations across central Pennsylvania, Oola Bowls is slowly expanding its reach in the Commonwealth.

The restaurant recently opened a new location in York. Founders Brock Snider and Joe Ferderbar say when they tried açaí bowls for the first time, they knew they had to bring the quick, easy and nutritious food to Lancaster and the surrounding region.

"The cool thing about açaí bowls is that you can kind of add or subtract any of the fresh toppings that you want on top," Snider said.

The signature Oola Bowl recipe starts with an açaí sorbet base. The superfood is filled with antioxidants, vitamins and healthy fat. Warm peanut butter is spread on top, then the bowl is sprinkled with homemade Grandma's Granola—a secret recipe from one of the founder's grandmothers. The bowl is finished off with fresh fruits like bananas, strawberries and blueberries, then drizzled with local honey.

"We're always adding different toppings and different superfoods on top," the founders said.

The York store, which marked its grand opening with a celebration on Dec. 2, is Oola Bowls' fifth standalone location. It also has storefronts inside Hersheypark, at the Fairgrounds Farmers Market in Reading and in Lancaster Central Market.

"Our goal is to expand and open five new locations in the surrounding area this year, so if you see an Oola Bowl sign, we'd love for you to stop in and enjoy a good açaí bowl from us," Snider said.

For those who prefer a do-it-yourself approach to the bowls, Oola also sells an at home kit.
