GETTYSBURG, Pa. — A Gettysburg National Park park ranger reunited a little girl and her stuffed animal when her family realized it was left behind after a trip to the battlefield.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, a family went to the national park, and their daughter's stuffed animal kitten, "Bumpy Kitty," accompanied the young girl. Once the family returned home, they realized the kitten was left behind and her daughter was devastated.
In a Facebook post by the girl's mom, she explains her daughter has sensory difficulties and anxiety, and "Bumpy Kitty" follows her everywhere she goes as her "security stuffy."
During their day trip at the park, a stranger asked if the family wanted a photo and by using that photo, they were able to find where the kitten could have disappeared.
Once her mom got in contact with a park ranger, stated as Park Ranger Joe, she asked if her husband could get back into the park after it closed to search for it.
Ranger Joe reportedly took matters into his own hands and checked the area but came up short, and told her to come first thing the next morning to search.
An hour later, the park ranger sent a text to her mom, showing "Bumpy Kitty" sitting on a rock in the dark.
In the Facebook post, the mom said, "He went above and beyond for our daughter, exceeding all expectations, and acted with true selflessness. We are so extremely thankful for his actions and will never forget this experience."
Gettysburg National Military Park account on Facebook reposted the post saying, "Because it's what we do. #HappyStory #BumpyKitty #ProtectAndServe."
