Half Nuts Popcorn shares passion for popcorn

Half Nuts Popcorn is gearing up for a grand reopening at a new location just next door in March.

WRIGHTSVILLE, Pa. — A Wrightsville staple will soon be reopening, bringing a passion for popcorn back to York County.

Lori Cappello and her husband recently purchased Half Nuts Popcorn from community mainstays Gina Frey-Jones and Tim Jones, who ran the shop for over a decade.

"They have been a staple and legacy in the Wrightsville area," Cappello said.

Wanting a change from her corporate job—and having an affinity for that salty, sweet treat—purchasing the shop was a no-brainer for Cappello.

She says their caramel cashew popcorn is a crowd favorite, although the store carries more than 30 flavors, some of which are seasonal. All of the popcorn is made in-house with a special type of kernel: a mushroom kernel. This type of popcorn ensures a super fluffy pop and is a bit crunchier than traditional popcorn, so it can hold up to being dunked and drizzled in various flavors.

The new owners are aiming to reopen Half Nuts Popcorn on the first day of spring, March 17. The shop will be housed in a new location just down the street from the original, at 498 South Front Street, across from Riverfront Park. The store will be open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
