HERSHEY, Pa. — The Halloween spirit was in the air Tuesday night at the Penn State Health Children's Hospital in Derry Township, Dauphin County.
Patients celebrated the spooky season with a Halloween party complete with costumes, games and crafts, with the help of Spirit of Children.
The organization has raised more than one million dollars in donations for the hospital. The money helps pay for programs at the facility as well as assist with resources and other key needs.
Organizers say Tuesday's event was a success.
"Spirit of Children's motto is to make a hospital a little less scary for a family and children," said Jeremy Simpson with Spirit Halloween Central Pa. "I think from the looks on these kids' faces we accomplished that today."
Since its inception in 2006, Spirit of Children has raised more than $127 million for Child Life departments at over 150 partner hospitals across North America. Donations are collected at Spirit Halloween stores and stay within local communities, with all funds supporting Child Life programs.
