YORK, Pa. — Spring may seem far away, but the American Cancer Society (ACS) is bringing it right to you with one of their annual campaigns: Daffodil Days.
In exchange for a donation, sponsors will receive daffodils or tulips. Donors are welcome to keep the flowers for themselves or pass them forward to brighten someone else's day. People can even choose to send their flowers to patients in hospitals and treatment centers.
In addition to being the largest non-government funder of cancer research in the United States, the ACS also provides:
- Free rides to and from cancer treatments through the Road To Recovery Program
- Free lodging if patients need to travel to another city for treatment through Hope Lodge Communities
- Grants to community health systems to provide cancer screening and education to underserved and underinsured populations
- Support groups for cancer patients, their families and caregivers
- Education on ways to prevent, detect and treat the disease
Organizers say it is uplifting to know they can alleviate some of the stress on families seeking treatment.
"Through learning everything that [ACS does], I just decided in real life that I very much have a passion to help other families and cancer patients as well," Stephanie White, the ACS's senior development manager, said.
The donation options for Daffodil Days are as follows:
- $12 donation
- Bunch of 10 regular daffodils
- $15 donation
- Potted mini daffodils, or
- Bunch of 10 assorted tulips
- $25 donation
- Gift of Hope (supports the donation and delivery of flowers to patients in hospitals, treatment centers and other local facilities)
