Cumberland County girl receives special Disney-themed send-off to Florida

The extravagant send-off was all made possible by Capital Blue Cross and Make-A-Wish.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A young girl from Cumberland County with a blood disorder is getting her biggest wish granted.

Eight-year-old Shelby walked a red carpet toward her wish as she was cheered on by family members and escorted by Capital Blue Cross staff members. Shelby's wish, to go to Walt Disney World, was given to her during a presentation in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County.

It was all made possible by Capital Blue Cross and Make-A-Wish. The president and CEO of Capital Blue Cross, Todd Shamash, told FOX43 that moments like these are his favorite part of the job.

"This is the best part of my job and what we do here, just to see that smile, that courage with the illness she's gone through. We were happy to be a small part of it and help make that dream come true for her and her family," said Shamash.

In addition to making Shelby's wish come true, Capital Blue Cross gave her a carry-on for her flight to Florida filled with outfits and other Disney-related items.
