Susquehanna Lions Club celebrates 90 years of giving back | On the Bright Side

The Susquehanna Lions Club of Mt. Wolf and Manchester is celebrating 90 years of giving back to the community.

MT WOLF, Pa. — The Susquehanna Lions Club of Mt. Wolf and Manchester is celebrating 90 years of giving back to the community. The club was originally formed to give eye care to the blind.

"We've provided surgeries for those with cataracts and glasses for the kids at local schools," said Robert Bowman, who is on the club's Board of Directors.

But over the years, their mission has expanded, helping volunteer fire departments, food banks and accident victims.

Most recently, they've created scholarship programs for students helping their neighbors.

"Anything we become aware of in the community, the Board of Directors vote and make a decision to give out funds," said Bowman.

Last year, they gave out more than $46,000 dollars to local groups and those in need across the area. They count on the community's help to make it happen, through fundraising efforts and donations.

"The real fundraiser is the bingo which we have twice a year," said Bowman. "We have other raffles and sell brooms—if you can see behind me—that bring in some extra bucks."

The 58 members continue to pay it forward and say they've become brothers in the process.

"We have a lot of fun teasing each other, picking on each other, but then again, we really support one another," said Bowman.

If you're looking for a fun way to give back, the group is holding its 22nd Annual Gift Card Bingo Nov. 26 and Dec. 3.

This is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year and will be held at the Union Fire Hall in Manchester.
