Operation Santa aims to make sure all kids get a gift on Christmas

It's the 112th year of Operation Santa, which allows kids to have a gift on Christmas.

YORK, Pa. — For 112 years, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has conducted "Operation Santa." Every year, millions of boys and girls worldwide write to Santa asking for their favorite wishes.

Unfortunately, not every kid gets what they wish for.

Operation Santa, however, is a big help in making sure that doesn't happen.

“Operation Santa is a program in which you can assist Santa Clause to deliver those packages to those in need," said Mark Lawrence of USPS.

You can find and read letters from children in our area or around the country on the USPS website. Once you adopt the letter you'll get additional instructions on purchasing and mailing the gift.

Just this year toys, clothing, and toiletries will be given out to more than 5,000 kids in the Harrisburg region. That number not only shows how many families need your help this holiday season but also highlights the generosity of people here in South Central Pennsylvania.

“The results of the program show the smiles and joy of individuals who can get that gift this Christmas through the program. And people enjoy giving and it’s not all about getting the gift,” said, Lawrence

USPS encourages you to keep checking back because new rounds of letters get posted throughout the holiday season.

“Not all letters are adopted every year, we try our best to always get them posted but, when we look back sometimes the site all letters aren’t adopted at that time so if you don’t see anything come back soon and look for the fresh round of adoptable letters to be posted,” said, Lawrence.
