CASA's annual Giving Tree campaign kicks off | On the Bright Side

Advocates say the campaign aims to "light the way forward" for foster children.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — This Giving Tuesday, CASA begins its annual Giving Tree campaign, benefiting foster kids and teens across Dauphin County.

The effort kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony Nov. 28 at 1 p.m.

The community is welcome to stop by American Legion Post 272 for all the action.

CASA volunteers are trained advocates appointed by a judge to work with a foster child or sibling group.

"They learn everything they can about the child," said CASA executive director Will Foster. "They will then advocate in every step of the process to make sure their voices are being heard."

CASA's goal is to move these children more quickly and efficiently to permanent, safe and loving homes.

"It is crucial because a lot of these kids, the only person they have in their life consistently is our volunteer," said Foster.

And volunteers say you can give back in person or virtually.

You can even buy a Giving Tree ornament, designed by a local foster child.

And if you feel compelled to do more, CASA is currently in need of volunteers.

"We're always looking for more advocates to make an impact," said Foster. "And advocates that come from all backgrounds."
