Here are DIY ideas to celebrate mom this Mother's Day

Party Host Helpers has three ideas for crafts that will brighten mom's day this Mother's Day.

YORK, Pa. — Mother's Day is this weekend, and it's the perfect holiday to get the kiddos in on planning the celebrations.

Party Host Helpers shares three ideas for crafts that will engage children and brighten mom's day.

Egg carton flowers

Patrone says this is the perfect craft for Mom that toddlers will enjoy.

Supplies

  • Egg carton
  • Paint or markers
  • Straw
  • Yellow pom pom
  • Glue

Directions

Cut the egg carton into four-pocket sections. Color or paint the cut cartons to make the egg holders look like flowers. Glue the pom pom where the four pockets join to make the pistil. Glue the straw between two of the pockets the make the stem.

April showers bring May flowers

This simple yet adorable gift will make mom smile.

Supplies

  • Children's rain boot
  • Flowers (fresh or fake)

Directions

Take your child's rainboot and fill it with fresh or fake flowers for a seasonal and thoughtful burst of cheer!

"Flowers are obviously a big traditional hit on Mother's Day," Renee Patrone Rhinehart, founder and CEO of Party Host Helpers, said. "But why not put them in your kid's rain boots? It's adorable. You can put them on your front porch, you can put them on your countertop. It's just a really sweet way to display maybe a store-bought bouquet of flowers that makes them look a little fancier."

Tea party

Another option is to plan a tea party for Mom that will impress her. Patrone suggests serving tea sandwiches like cucumber and cream cheese. For moms who love a sweet treat, something fruity can be a great option to accompany tea. You can make your own fruit tart from sugar cookie dough, icing and fruit, or grab one from a store. Patrone also recommends making a cute strawberry mason jar shortcake. All you'll need is strawberries dusted with sugar, pound cake and cool whip.

To add a fun twist to a typical tea party, consider mixing up a tea cocktail instead of traditional tea. Patrone recommends this recipe from The Spruce Eats.
