Fourth of July BLAST in Jacobus brings community together

JACOBUS, Pa. — There are lots of Fourth of July festivities across central Pennsylvania today. However, the Fourth of July BLAST in York County not only brought the fun but is hoping to bring the community together.

“We serve, that’s our motto. So, we want to let [the community] know that we can help them. Maybe they’ve got non-profits out there that we may want to be able to help out,” said Stay Snyder, president of the Jacobus Lions Club.

The club is a volunteer community service organization, which hosted its 59th annual Fourth of July BLAST. The event included live music, a car show, vendors and plenty of kid-friendly activities.

Although this event had tons of treats, it's not the only thing that makes this event sweet.

“It brings people together because it’s about who you know. It’s a time to get out there, sit down, talk to someone you’ve never talked to before. Just have fun. That’s what it’s all about,” said Chris Stewart, an event attendee.

He says the event is helping him get closer to his dreams of being a firefighter and giving him a chance to connect with first responders.

While the event creates connections, vendors say the Fourth of July BLAST offers them a valuable platform.

“This is just a way to allow our community to see what they can buy here in York, by those that live here in York,” said Mary Ziegler, owner of Aunt Myrtle’s Designs.

The event ends with fireworks around 9:15 p.m. tonight.
