Goodwill encourages shoppers to holiday shop at nonprofit

Goodwill is encouraging shoppers to get a bang for their buck and help further their mission by shopping at their thrift stores.

SHREWSBURY, Pa. — Goodwill Keystone Area is encouraging shoppers to get a bang for their buck and help their community by shopping at their thrift stores.

Not only are items below market value, but the donations and money spent in the organizations help further individuals' careers.

“A lot of the items we have here are vintage,” said Matthew Curry, store manager at the Shrewsbury Goodwill location.

“A lot of items are from the '90s, and you can’t get the same reproduction value that you can today,” said Curry.

Goodwill works to enhance people’s dignity and quality of life by strengthening their communities, eliminating their barriers to opportunity and helping them reach their full potential through learning and the power of work. This includes people with disabilities, and since 2022, 2.1 million lives have been impacted by Goodwill's work.

"We raise money here and allow them to go out to vocational rehab, so that way they can be productive members of their society and start their lives off well,” said Curry.

FOX43 had the opportunity to shop around for some holiday items. They were able to find things like holiday decorations, clothing for the winter, antique and vintage items and more. Curry said people who do decide to pick items either for themselves or for loved ones are helping further the mission and the community.

“It’s not only good monetarily, but you’re also helping a lot of people in the community,” said Curry. "It’s a beautiful thing for the heart.”
