YORK, Pa. — Autumn brings cool weather, pretty leaves, and, of course, seasonal treats.
The Pennsylvania Bakery is well-versed in that last part.
Sept. 17 marks National Apple Dumpling Day, and the Bakery is ringing it in with dumplings as far as the eye can see.
"Right now, this time of year, we're selling dozens a day," Dresdon Rohrer, head baker at The Pennsylvania Bakery, said. "Til the season ends, we will have gone through a couple thousand dumplings, but I mean each day, we're constantly moving. It's all the time."
Rohrer says prepping and making the dumplings is fairly simple; the most time-consuming part is the baking.
He stuffs each cored apple with butter before sprinkling them with cinnamon sugar and wrapping them in dough. To make sure the apple dumplings crisp in the oven, brush them with a bit of egg and some more cinnamon sugar.
"When it comes to dessert, calories never count," Rohrer laughed.
Orders can be placed online for in-store pickup. Those who want to browse can visit the bakery at 1713 Market St. in Camp Hill.
