CLINTON, Maryland —
For months, neighbors in Clinton have watched as an abandoned dog limped through their neighborhood. Professionals have tried to come and catch her, but she won’t leave.
“Oh, there she is,” Rain Correa said as the dog makes her way into her yard. “She sleeps right here. We try to make a bed for her.”
The dog has no name other than “Nine,” which is what neighbors say its owner called her before they moved away, and Nine was abandoned.
“I just want her to have a home,” Correa said. She cannot take the dog in herself since she’s only living in the community temporarily. Instead, she has been helping Nine by giving her food and a place to sleep.
Other neighbors also provide water for Nine and look out for her as she wanders through the neighborhood.
“I knew she was a wonderful dog when she was walking the kids to the bus stop,” Correa said, which is one of the reasons Nine has been embraced by the community. It is believed that the dog has been without a home since at least this past spring.
With an injured leg, Nine would need medical care once she finds a proper home. Neighbors are hoping to find her a permanent place before winter arrives.
