LANCASTER, Pa. — If someone were to describe the perfect puppy, they would most likely be describing Ricky! He's our Furry Friend this week, brought to us by Charlie's Crusaders Pet Rescue.
Ricky is a 7-month-old lab and cattle dog mix who was rescued from the southern U.S.
Hollie Shelton fostered both Ricky and one of his siblings starting over the summer. His sibling has since been adopted, but Ricky is still on the hunt for his perfect family.
“Ricky is very outgoing. He is very well socialized. He’s everything a puppy should be," Shelton tells FOX43. "He loves other dogs. He would love to have a puppy playmate that matches his energy but he’d also do really well as an only dog. He settles really well.”
In fact, Ricky has made the perfect office pup making friends with all of Shelton's coworkers and sleeping quietly under her desk during the work day.
Ricky is crate trained, house trained, and knows how to sit on command. He loves other dogs and does well with kids, though he could do just as well with a lower energy family too.
“A family that maybe isn’t overly active. They can be couch potatoes, we certainly are," Shelton jokes. "He’s just happy with anybody.”
With his smaller size and personality, he’d also make a great apartment dog.
“Ricky would do well with someone that is in a larger apartment or townhouse that doesn’t have a yard. He would do great with leash walking every day," she says.
Shelton says Ricky’s only requirement for his future family is that they have plenty of tennis balls.
“He loves to play ball. He’s actually the only foster we’ve ever had that likes to play fetch.”
