NEW FREEDOM, Pa. — This week's Furry Friend is Duke, brought to us by Animal Rescue Inc.
Duke is a senior beagle who is about 10-years-old.
He was brought to the rescue after one of their volunteers spotted him online.
“A volunteer had found him on Facebook and people were looking to rehome him," says Teresa Fernandez, who is the volunteer coordinator at the shelter. "He’s lived outside for 10 years. And we thought it was an opportunity to change this dog’s life and now he’s part of us.”
Despite his age and short stature, Duke still zooms around outside.
“He’s very laid back. He likes squeaky toys. He gets along with everyone. He gets along with the dogs. He chases the cats but he doesn’t hurt anybody. He’s just a typical beagle, nose to the ground all the time," says Fernandez.
Duke would fit into almost any family, whether they’re more laid back or active.
“Kids would be great. He’d play with kids, just throw him the ball. So I think either would work with him. He’s a pretty good all-around dog," Fernandez says.
While Duke spent most of his life living outside, he’s looking to join a family that brings him in for all the snuggles. Fernandez thinks joining a permanent family would be a great way for Duke to spend his golden years.
“This is his time to shine. You know, he’s been living outside. I think he’ll be a great dog for whoever takes him," she says.
