LANCASTER, Pa. — This week's Furry Friend is Fritz, brought to us by the PSPCA Lancaster Center.
Fritz is a 2-year-old large mixed-breed dog who is very smart. He knows tricks like sit and down and is working on rollover.
When you first meet Fritz, you'll first notice his appearance. His fur is patchy in places and his ears are a little lopsided. These injuries all came from a dog fight Fritz was in before he was rescued. Fortunately, the team at the PSPCA nursed him back to health.
“Thankfully our medical team was able to clean him up and look at him and get him the care he needed. So he’s all recovered from that," says Tyler Lee, Site Lead at the shelter. "He’s super personable, very friendly, loves people, loves being around people, loves attention.”
Fritz has the biggest smile and loves to munch on treats. His ideal family will have experience with big dogs and will be high energy just like Fritz.
“He’s very friendly but he’s a little rough around the edges. He just needs obedience training and he’ll definitely need work on his dog reactivity," says Lee.
Because of Fritz’s accident before he was rescued, he is highly reactive towards other dogs. He’ll need to be the only dog in his house and have an understanding family ready to help him through those situations.
Otherwise, Lee says Fritz will be a family member ready to soak up all the love and attention you have to give.
“Fritz is a big guy and a lot of the big dogs often get overlooked. So if you have space in your home for a big goofball we’re definitely the place.”
The PSPCA Lancaster Center is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. for visits if you'd like to meet Fritz in person. The PSPCA has a full list of adoption requirements and policies you can look up ahead of time on their website.
