Furry Friends with Juniper, the dog!

Juniper is a shy dog who takes a moment to warm up to people. Once she does, she's a total love bug! Juniper is available for adoption at the PSPCA Lancaster Center.

LANCASTER, Pa. — This week’s Furry Friend is Juniper, brought to us by the PSPCA Lancaster Center

Juniper is a shy dog hoping to find her home for the holidays. And while this pup might not be rocking around the Christmas tree, she would love a silent night snuggled up with her people.

Juniper is a 1-year-old mixed breed dog with chocolate brown fur. While her tail might hang low when you first meet, she turns into a love bug once she gets to know you.

“Once she warms up she’s very sweet, very affectionate. It just takes her a little bit of time to get to know her and trust new people," said Tyler Lee, site lead at the shelter.

While Juniper was a little apprehensive of the camera gear and a new person at the start of our visit, I was able to give her treats and hold her paw by the end of it.

Lee says that Juniper will need a low key family that lets her slowly warm up to them.

"Ideally I think a quiet home would do really well for her. Somewhere where you know they can have the time to let her warm up. She could potentially be okay with older children - 3 or older or 5 or older," Lee told FOX43. "It just really it comes down to energy levels and whether or not she’s able to acclimate to the home. You know, ideally people that can respect and give her the time to settle in that she needs.”

When it comes to other Furry Friends, they would have to be on Juniper’s energy level.

“She’d probably do well with maybe an older dog that’s not interested in playing and kind of lets her do her thing. She hasn’t shown any negative behaviors towards other dogs," says Lee.

Juniper has so far been overlooked because of her shy personality. This can be hard at a shelter, where the environment is often loud and overwhelming for some dogs. Lee hopes a family will come along and give Juniper the chance at a forever family in a loving home.

“She definitely seems to have a really affectionate side. She’s very food motivated and she’s very sweet and pretty easy going. I think it just takes her getting out of the shelter to see what her real personality’s going to be like and kind of give her a chance to shine and be a normal dog," he said.

The PSPCA is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. for you to stop in and meet Juniper or any of the Furry Friends available for adoption. You can learn more about the adoption process on their website.
