NEW FREEDOM, Pa. — This week's Furry Friend is Chief, brought to us by Animal Rescue Inc. in New Freedom, York County.
Chief is a 2-year-old hound mix with big, floppy, brown ears. He's a total goofball with lots of energy. He loves to jump and run around the yard at the rescue.
This goofball has lots of energy and loves to jump and run around the yard at Animal Rescue Inc.
“He’s definitely goofy. He’s very affectionate. He loves to be around people, running around playing in the yard," said Kira Miller, a volunteer dog walker at the rescue.
Miller says Chief is a fun dog. He’s working on learning commands and won’t turn down a treat.
"He’s still learning how to pick up commands and all that but he knows how to sit and he loves learning new tricks," Miller told FOX43. "We’re trying to teach him things like down and stay and all that.”
Chief’s ideal family will be willing to get Chief out on walks or hikes so he can burn off some of his energy.
“I think he would definitely love a family with some kids," said Miller. "Someone to run around with him in the yard. Definitely has a lot of energy but also loves getting pet, loves rolling around getting scratched on his belly, all that.”
Chief does well with other dogs at the shelter and doesn’t seem to mind the cats on the property either.
Miller says after spending more than half of his life at the rescue, she’s hopeful Chief will find his forever family in the new year.
“He’d bring a lot of joy into 2024. He would definitely be a good companion. Someone to help you get outside, get you healthy, you know, get out and see more nature, go on some trails. Just getting outside and have a good time.”
