Churning up sauerkraut ice cream for the new year

Celebrate the new year with a Pennsylvania tradition… in a dessert.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Sauerkraut is a Pennsylvanian Dutch tradition to bring luck into the new year.

But one local ice cream maker wants to make it a little sweeter.

For its sixth year, Urban Churn made more than fifty gallons of sauerkraut ice cream. Customers can purchase this unique flavor at all three of their central Pennsylvania locations.

According to the business, those who have tried the sauerkraut ice cream say the flavor is enjoyable and "similar to buttermilk."
