HARRISBURG, Pa. — Capital Region Water announced it will temporarily pump and treat water from its backup supply in the Susquehanna River, starting Friday, Nov. 22.

The exercise is to test the backup system and ensure its reliability in the case of an emergency, the water company said in a press release.

"Our top priority is to protect public health by providing safe, reliable drinking water," Capital Region Water CEO Charlotte Katzenmoyer said. "All state and federal drinking water standards will be met during this temporary exercise. While customers with a sensitive palate may notice a slightly different taste, there is no change to the quality of water coming through your tap."

The short-term operation will last about two weeks, Capital Region Water said. The company said it will transition back to its primary water supply, the DeHart Reservoir, on Dec. 6.
