LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster County-based energy company is expanding further into Central Pennsylvania after a recent acquisition.
Rhoads Energy announced Tuesday that it has completed a transaction that adds HB Home Services fuel delivery customers to its growing portfolio. HB Home Service Team will still servicing and maintaining the systems of those customers.
HB will still be the home service provider for all HVAC, plumbing and electrical needs.
“We chose to partner with Rhoads Energy as they are a similar company to HB Home Service Team," said Eric Crawford, CEO and president of HB Home Service. "Our team wanted to focus more on our core residential services of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Our team will still take care of our customers installation and service needs. The only change is we no longer provide heating oil and propane delivery services.
"Rhoads will only be responsible for delivering fuel and propane to our existing customer base. It was important to us that our customers, who have trusted us with their fuel and propane needs, would receive the same level of service that they were accustomed to receiving in the past. Rhoads and HB Home Service Team share a similar make up of being employee owned.
"This was important in our decision, as wanted to make sure that the employee owners who worked in our fuels and propane department would receive the same level of benefits.”
HB Home Services previously operated as part of HB McClure, Rhoads Energy said.
The purchase further extends Rhoads Energy’s fuel delivery territory into parts of Cumberland, Dauphin, and York Counties. It also brings reliable service from a locally owned company to a large swath of heating oil and propane customers, the company said.
Rhoads Energy, founded in 1917, offers fuel delivery, fleet fueling, and a wide range of other offerings. The employee-owned company also operates Cool Crew, a division of 50+ experienced technicians that installs and services home comfort equipment.
As part of the purchase, HB Home Services drivers and trucks will join Rhoads Energy’s sizable delivery fleet, the company said.
“We’re looking forward to helping our new customers discover the benefits of doing business with our team,” said Michael DeBerdine, CEO of Rhoads Energy. “We’re also excited that we have the capability to offer fuel delivery service to all the homes in the Harrisburg metro region.”
Before the transaction, Rhoads Energy’s territory included Lancaster, Lebanon, Chester, Berks, and Montgomery counties.
With the addition of HB Home Services fuel customers, Rhoads will expand its footprint to the northwest. The added service area comprises the region stretching from Hershey, through Harrisburg and into Carlisle. It will also include much of northern York County.
New customers will have immediate access to Rhoads Energy’s enhanced customer services: online account access, automatic payment, budget billing, texting notifications, and more, according to the company.
This is just the most recent expansion for Rhoads Energy. Over the past two decades, Rhoads Energy has experienced continuous growth, both organically and through a series of acquisitions.
The company offers a wide range of services to tens of thousands of customers every year.
