Taylor Chip 'churns' into new creamery

Taylor Chip, known for its large, gooey cookies, just opened a creamery and cookie shop in York.

YORK, Pa. — A central Pennsylvania dessert company known for its gigantic, gooey cookies is "churning" to a new adventure.

Sara and Doug Taylor of Taylor Chip received a $3.5 million state grant earlier this year to help expand its manufacturing operation, including adding the ability to produce ice cream.

Taylor Chip opened a new location and launched 15 flavors of ice cream in York over the weekend. The new store is the first to feature unique flavors like PB&J, S’mores, Tart Berry Crumble, Sweet Potato Casserole and more. It also offers coffee and tea.

"Just to have the support from locals is everything to us," Sara, COO and co-founder, said.

Each of the ice cream flavors has chunks of Taylor Chip cookies mixed in. Everything is made in-house, including extras and toppings, so there are no ingredients such as high fructuous corn syrup or seed oils.

"Dairy manufacturing is more stringent than pharmaceutical manufacturing," Doug, CEO and co-founder, said. "So it's taken us like five years to get to this point, because we didn't want to use someone else's base. We wanted to do everything from scratch."

He says opening the creamery took a long process of perfecting their ice cream base and finding the a manufacturer to step in while they built their facility.

Taylor Chip's York store can be found at 3013 E. Market St. and is open from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. every day except Sunday.

The Taylors already have plans to expand their offerings by making more sweet treat combinations with their cookies and ice cream. Those interested in keeping up with Taylor Chip can follow along on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
