Lancaster brewery provides special beer to US Women's Open

Spring House Brewing's "Championship Pale Ale" was available throughout the U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster Country Club.

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster brewery supplied a special beer to the U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster Country Club, providing a local flair to the historic tournament.

Spring House Brewing Company provided its special "Championship Pale Ale" cans to the tournament. It was brewed specifically for the event.

Spring House co-owner Scott Richardson says his goal was to up the ante from its last partnership with the Lancaster Country Club during the 2015 U.S. Women's Open.

"We had made a beer that was draft only," Richardson said. "Of course, we wanted to try to do something even bigger and better this year. And so we reached out to the country club first to see whether they were interested in having us make a beer for the event."

The beer was on sale in concession stands throughout the course, and it included a can designed by local artist Elaina Posey.

For Spring House, the trophy on the can represents the satisfaction of being a part of one of Lancaster County’s biggest events.

"We are extremely community oriented," Richardson said. "It's something that we pride ourselves in, If there's something happening in the community, we want to know about it. We want to know how to bring another partnership together, something that we can celebrate. Beer is so easy, because everybody likes beer."

The brewery is one of the many local businesses that have been featured at this year's tournament.
