LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase a baby formula sold in Lancaster and Clinton counties because it does not provide infants with the nutrition they need.

Consumers should avoid purchasing Mother's Touch formula, which is sold at markets in Kinzers and Gap in Lancaster County, the FDA announced.

It is also available for direct purchase on the Mother's Touch website, according to the FDA.

The product was also not tested for potentially harmful bacteria, according to the FDA.

On its official website, Mother's Touch claims to be "FDA registered."

But according to the FDA, Mother's Touch is not manufactured in accordance with the agency's FDA baby formula regulations. It is not tested to determine if it meets the nutritional requirements for baby formula, and its label claims to include seven nutrients that do not meet the FDA's nutrient requirements and therefore could potentially cause nutrient deficiencies or toxicity in infants, the FDA said.

In addition, the FDA said, Mother's Touch was not fully tested for the presence of harmful bacteria, like Cronobacter.

Mother's Milk does not meet "the minimum levels required for protein, linoleic acid, calcium, sodium, potassium, and chloride," the FDA said in its announcement.

The formula is also "above the maximum level allowed for iron," according to the FDA.

"Parents and caregivers of infants who have purchased this product should discontinue use and throw it away," the FDA said in its announcement. "Parents and caregivers of infants who have used this product and are concerned about the health of their child should contact their health care provider."
