YORK COUNTY, Pa. — If you're a fan of Rita's Italian Ice, we've got some bad news.
The company announced Tuesday it is cancelling Free Ice Day, its annual celebration of the arrival of Spring. The event, which coincides with the first day of Spring, was scheduled to be held on March 20 this year.
Rita's said on Twitter that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution and an effort to keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's the second straight year that Free Ice Day has been called off due to COVID-19.
"We’ve chosen to cancel our Free Ice Day...to keep everyone safe," Ritas said in a tweet. "While we can’t celebrate together, we plan on celebrating those who have been keeping us safe throughout the year.
"Don’t worry, we’re still open for business, and we look forward to seeing you soon."
