New Amazon facility in York County hosts grand opening

The Amazon facility is expected to make a large infrastructure and economic impact in York County, creating more than 25,000 jobs and investing $21.6 billion.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A new Amazon Fulfillment Center in York County is joining the nearly 40 other fulfillment centers across the Commonwealth.

Although the facility has been operating since June, today will mark the grand opening of the York Amazon Fulfillment Center.

“We are constantly evaluating our network trying to see where we can put sites to optimize our logistics network, and central Pennsylvania is an area that is home to a lot of our operations in the state,” said Sam Fisher, an Amazon spokesperson.

Fisher says that the Amazon facility will make a large infrastructure and economic impact in York County, creating more than 25,000 jobs and investing $21.6 billion in Pennsylvania since 2010.

“This site has already created over a thousand jobs,” said Fisher. “It’s creating great high-paying positions that comes with fantastic day one benefits.”

Amazon has opened 50 new fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and same-day delivery sites in the U.S. this year. The York County Amazon Center is 1.2 million square feet. Fisher says they’re hoping this building eases some of the shopping headaches ahead of the holiday season.

“We know folks are shopping earlier for the holidays year over year, and so we want to make sure we have places like this locked and loaded so that folks can do their holiday shopping as early as they want to,” said Fisher.

Representatives from Amazon, local officials and Governor Josh Shapiro are expected to make an appearance at the grand opening event today, Oct. 24.
