Tolls are incrementally going up annually until 2051, in response to Act 44 passed by Pa. lawmakers in 2007.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — On Monday, Pennsylvania Turnpike officials announced that customers can now use Google Pay and Apple Pay as the newest options to pay tolls.

"These new payment options deliver what the majority of our customers want: seamless and convenient mobility," said Pa. Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. "Our customers have a clear preference for electronic payments, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is dedicated to understanding and meeting their evolving needs."

Customers can access the mobile payment options through the Turnpike's on-the-go account management app, PA Toll Pay. Google Pay is also available for customers paying through the E-ZPass website.

According to officials, Apple Pay and Google Pay meet customer preferences for digital payment and provide a faster, easier and more secure method for processing transactions. Both payment options can be used to make one-time payments, but not auto-replenishment.

E-ZPass remains the most cost-effective way to travel the Pa. Turnpike, with rates that are half the cost of Toll-By-Plate charges. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has implemented various options to make payment easy for its customers, including:

  • Making E-ZPass Go paks available at approximately 730 retail locations.
  • Adding KUBRA's nationwide network of more than 75,000 retail locations, providing customers the ability to use cash to pay Toll-By-Plate invoices or add funds to E-ZPass accounts. This payment option helps customers without bank accounts or those who do not want to tie up funds in an E-ZPass account until they travel.
  • Providing a 15% discount for Toll-By-Plate customers who pre-register and verify their email address and credit card for invoicing.
  • Adding a QR Code to Toll-By-Plate invoices.
  • Offering several different ways to pay their invoice: by mail, by phone, online, using a mobile app, through the cash-payment network and by walk-in at the Harrisburg Customer Service Center.
