YORK, Pa. — A York barbershop is offering free haircuts on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for people in need to grow success within their community, one cut at a time.
"We want to help out those in need," said Simeon Haynes, a barber at World A Cuts. "If we can just do our part by helping people look a little bit better, feel a little bit better, hopefully they’ll do a little better."
World A Cuts, located on the 600 block of East Market Street, is offering free walk-in haircuts from five of its barbers on Tuesday to everyone who needs them from noon until 6 p.m.
Haynes has been cutting hair for 12 years. He came up with the idea knowing that a small act of kindness can go a long way.
"Anytime I’ve gotten a haircut or anything I was ready to take on the world," said Haynes. "I was ready for that job interview, I was ready for that bully in school who didn’t like my haircut the day before. I stepped into whatever building with confidence, with confidence that I can do the job. [With] a positive outlook, a haircut and a positive mind frame, you’re going to do something positive.
Tuesday's event is all part of an effort to make the barbershop a community space for positive change.
"Even if it’s not for a free haircut, come seek some advice, come talk, come meet me," said Haynes. "I like to meet everyone at this point and anything I can do to help, I’m willing to do starting tomorrow. We just want to open doors so we know what’s going on in the community. Hopefully, we can put our heads together and help just one person at a time."
It's an initiative that is intended to help people look good, feel good, and ultimately, inspire good.
"I want them to go conquer the world, I want them to go out there and not have any excuses about where they’re going or how they’re going to do it," said Haynes. "Just know you’re going to look good, that first impression is always the last and don’t let nobody tell you [that] you can’t walk in somewhere because of how you look because, tomorrow, our job is to make sure everyone looks good."
