YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Give Local York, a day of philanthropy designed to support the nonprofits helping people right in your own community, will take place from May 2 to 3.
As the event draws nearer, FOX43 will highlight some of the nonprofits that will benefit from the donations.
Bro2Go is one of those organizations.
The nonprofit strives to provide the support ex-offenders need when they leave prison and reenter society. The group works with all ages and genders to both ease the transition back to living independently and prevent at-risk youth from entering the system.
Da'Laine Simpson founded the nonprofit after serving a stint in Dauphin County Prison for traffic violations.
"Ninety days--that's all it took for me," he said.
"From there, I birthed Bro2Go. And everything that it meant for reentrants, everything that it meant for at-risk youth, and what it would do for south central Pennsylvania. All out of Dauphin County Work Release. And now here we are."
The nonprofit has since expanded its reach to York and Cumberland counties, with plans to include Lancaster County next.
Donations from Give Local York will go to the Bro2Go Junior program for youth mentoring services.
Those who would like to support the nonprofit but can't donate are invited to volunteer in a number of positions. Click here to contact the organization and express interest in volunteering.
"It's all about the community," Simpson said. "Because there is unity in the community, and we're a firm believer of that."
