YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Give Local York, a day of philanthropy designed to support the nonprofits helping people right in your own community, will take place from May 2 to 3.
As the event draws nearer, FOX43 will highlight some of the nonprofits that will benefit from the donations.
The Chasing the Rainbows is one of those organizations.
The nonprofit offers support to infertility, pregnancy loss and infant loss survivors. It holds three support groups every day and provides a number of other services, including a podcast, trauma therapy, yoga and more.
"It's all around surrounding our survivors with these daily support services to meet them where they're at with their grief and trauma journeys," Bernice Quesenberry, CEO and president of Chasing the Rainbows, said.
Donations from Give Local York will go towards building Coping Care Packages and funding the organization's trauma therapy program.
"When you leave the hospital empty-armed, you know, it's the only time—this type of loss—where someone says 'you can have another baby,' or 'there's a bigger purpose for your baby,'" Quesenberry said. "And great, one survivor may believe that, but it's not a blanket statement for all. So it's like, where can you go to have that safe space to talk? Because for the 1 in 4 that this is occurring to, it's a commonality, but where are they all going? So we're uniting everyone together and bringing them together across our nation."
Those who would like to support the nonprofit but can't donate are invited to volunteer in a number of positions, including running support groups, becoming an ambassador for the program and spreading the word about support services the nonprofit offers.
