YORK, Pa. — For the past three years, FOX43 has teamed up with Multiplying Good for the Jefferson Awards. It's a way to highlight people in your neighborhood who put in the extra effort to help others, and it doesn't have to be a grand gesture to be nominated.
One person's small act of kindness can have a huge impact, just like Disma Campailla.
The business owner opened Riverside Subs in Wrightsville five months ago and works six days a week. It's what he does on that one off day that made his wife decide to nominate him for the award.
When Campailla opened the shop, he quickly realized he had leftover bread every week that he didn't want to waste. Knowing there is a great need in the community, he began using that day off to drive around to homeless shelters in various counties dropping off the extra food.
Disma says donating the bread has brought him a lot of joy, and he encourages others to be as generous.
"No matter how big or small, just do it anyway; if you think it's not gonna make a difference it probably is," he said when asked if others should get involved. "A lot of us think 'well it's not going to get recognized,' but you're making the impact on that individual, so that's the most important thing."
