A marching band for all ages | Give Local York

Lancer's Drum & Bugle Corps is dedicated to providing life-long music education and performance opportunities with drum and bugle corps.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. —

Give Local York, a day of philanthropy designed to support the nonprofits helping people right in your own community, will take place from May 2 to 3.

As the event draws nearer, FOX43 will highlight some of the nonprofits that will benefit from the donations.

Lancer's Drum & Bugle Corps is one of those organizations.

The nonprofit is dedicated to providing life-long music education and performance opportunities with drum and bugle corps. Its participants range in age from students in high school to people in their 80s.

"We just love playing music for people," Kristin Gould, director and drum major, said. "We have been recognized as, like, York County's music ambassadors."

The organization is based in Hanover and was established in 1920. The Corps performs at community events such as parades and holiday festivities and sometimes travels for engagements.

Money raised from Give Local York will go towards expenses such as purchasing new music, and repairing and buying instruments.

Gould says the organization is always looking for new members, and those who are unable to donate are invited to join the Lancer's Drum & Bugle Corps. People who are interested but do not play an instrument can consider joining the honor or color guards.

"I think that music is just the universal language, and it means so much to so many in so many different ways, so it's just a nice community of people who enjoy working together and sharing the gifts that we have," Gould said.

The Corps will host a showcase at the Pullo Center on April 20.
