HARRISBURG, Pa. — Another meeting for the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg is scheduled for today after plans were made to stabilize the building due to a fire that occurred last year.
The district approved a contract for $2.4 million to stabilize the building at the last meeting; this meeting will focus on the plans for the building.
Tonight's meeting will occur at the Lincoln Administration Building at 6 p.m. The new proposal calls for the removal of asbestos, a thorough clean out of all debris and hazardous material, and ensuring the wing damaged by a December fire is secure.
The new contract will also add new fencing around the building and added security.
This comes after city officials filed an emergency declaration to demolish a portion of the former high school affected by the fire on Dec. 13. The District's William Penn Community Task Force is expected to publicly make a formal recommendation for the future use of the property to the Court Appointed Receiver tonight, with a formal presentation at a school board meeting on Jan. 23.
