Positive Energy Arts benefits from Give Local York | On the Bright Side

Positive Energy Arts foundation brings music and movement into underfunded schools.

YORK, Pa. — Positive Energy Arts Foundation brings music and movement into underfunded schools.

"Some of our students that might be struggling in school find a really helpful home in the music arts education realm," said executive director Amy Costa. "And we want to be a part of that and help them to grow."

The nonprofit gives York City elementary and middle school students the chance to experience not only the art of dance, but also the sense of community and support that accompanies it.

"We're building them up and doing lots of positive reinforcement," said Costa. "We're acting more like mentors to them than just a typical program that comes in and out of schools."

The 10-week dance series finishes off with a showcase, where students can show off their moves.

And now Positive Energy leaders are raising awareness and funding for their upcoming summer camp series for students.

"It's a time that we can really build on the skills that we're learning here at dance in the gym," said Costa.

The free summer camp begins at the end of June.

It's held five days a week, over the course five weeks.

And organizers say the money raised through Give Local York covers that cost, so no student has to pay.
