Community center helps seniors stay active, social | Give Local York

The community hub welcomes adults aged 60 and over to drop in for events, clubs, courses and just to socialize.

LEWISBERRY, Pa. — Give Local York, a day of philanthropy designed to support the nonprofits helping people right in your own community, will take place from May 2 to 3.

As the event draws nearer, FOX43 will highlight some of the nonprofits that will benefit from the donations.

Red Land Senior Center is one of those organizations.

The community hub welcomes adults aged 60 and over to drop in for events, clubs, courses and just to socialize. Some of the activities members can participate in include a book club, Zumba classes, games, choir, driver refresher courses, movie days and much more. A schedule can be found here.

"We do a daily congregant meal for individuals here that makes it very helpful to individuals who are living on their own or don't like to cook, and we also provide programming activities for socialization and cognitive development, just getting people active and out of their houses," Carman Banzaca, executive director, said.

Residents of Northern York (Lewisberry, Etters, York Haven, Yocumtown, Goldsboro, Valley Green and Newberrytown) and other York County areas are welcome to visit the Senior Center and Thrift Shop, located at 736 Wyndamere Road in Lewisberry, inside the Wyndamere Heights Church.

Donations from Give Local York will go towards helping the Senior Center purchase its building. They have been renting for the past 50 years.

Those who would like to support the Red Land Senior Center but can't donate are invited to volunteer in a number of positions. Details on how to get involved can be found on the Center's website.
