ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — Two central Pennsylvania ice cream shops have partnered to raise money for a local animal shelter during National Ice Cream Month.
Ripleigh Maring, owner of Ripleigh's Creamery, says she grew up eating Mr. G's ice cream and thought it would be fun to strike up a friendly competitive partnership. Both creameries created a Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Chip ice cream in their own style.
"Yeah, I just thought it would be a great idea for us to come together," Marc McLean, owner of Mr. G's, said. "She's a young entrepreneur who does a great job, and I'm not so young, but I think both of our businesses make a quality product for our communities, so it was just the right time to do it."
The business owners decided 50% of the proceeds would go towards the Adams County SPCA to help the shelter out after it rescued nearly 40 animals from a filthy trailer last month.
Guests are encouraged to try both shops' version of the ice cream, because in Maring's words, "They're a little bit different in their own ways."
The FOX43 Morning News at Nine team samples both versions in the video above.
The fundraiser will run until July 31. The creameries hope to raise $500-1,000 for the animal rescue.
