Nonprofit aims to help more than 200 military families in need

Roots For Boots, a local nonprofit, partnered with Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for a MilitaryShare food distribution event at the Markets at Hanover.

HANOVER, Pa. — Roots For Boots, a local nonprofit, partnered with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for a MilitaryShare food distribution event at the Market at Hanover on Tuesday.

Its aim is help more than 200 families with members who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.

This will be the nonprofit's 80th MilitaryShare food distribution event since its inception back in 2018.

Roots for Boots was founded by Christy Lucas, a former educator with a commitment to instilling a sense of patriotism, love of country and respect for veterans in her students. The organization was born out of a chance encounter and a shared dedication to giving back to the military community.

Since its establishment, Lucas says the nonprofit evolved into a grassroots initiative that goes beyond traditional support frameworks, providing tailored assistance to meet the specific needs and challenges faced by servicemen and women and their families.

The MilitaryShare food distribution event took place at The Market at Hanover from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Organizers say pre-registration is needed for the event. Interested families can find more information on MilitaryShare and how to contact Roots for Boots online.
